WHAT TO BRING?
Hunting gear:
Necessity - Gun or Bow (A 12 gauge with 1oz. slugs is a great gun in the brush), safety harness, rubber boots for scent control, bear repellent ( Keystone Country Store is about the cheapest), bug nets for head and face, bug repellent with deet, rain gear, binoculars, GPS, cameras and video recorders with extra film or batteries.
Optional- Stands are provided. If you prefer to hang your own, bring one up. Climbers do not work well due to tree species in our area. Stands are set up for a 20-25 yard shot. Quads are handy. There are plenty of back roads and areas to explore. Ontario requires anyone on a quad to wear a helmet.
Two-way radios work but are limited by steep hills and thick terrain. Extra rope, camp axe, ratchet straps, 2 ft. bungee cords, headlamps, leather gloves, assorted size tarps.
Fishing:
Heavy gear works well when you're horsing in 8lb. pike. Steel leaders and basic spoons will do the job. The pike aren't too picky about what they eat but be prepared to lose some gear to big fish that aren't ready to come aboard. Landing net, canoe and paddles or small trolling or gas motor, fillet knives
Camp gear:
Our camps are primitive. They are near water and each has a picnic table and outhouse. A tent or camper will work well in our camps. Please ask for more details. A 12x12 screen tent is recommended for sleeping to keep cool if necessary and to keep the bugs out. Do Bring- A deep fryer for cooking fish, lantern and extra mantels, flashlights, sleeping bag and pillow and a five gallon water jug for camp drinking water. It can be filled it up in Manitouwadge when buying your bear tag.
Paperwork:
You need an old or current hunting license or a hunter safety certificate to purchase your bear tag. American currency can be converted at the Duty Free Shop on the Michigan side of the International Bridge. A passport will be required after 2008. Money for bear tags ($193.25 CDN), fish license ($25.25 CDN), gas, gun import permit ($30 CDN), and bear export permit ($35 CDN)
